Free Online Resources for Hispanic Heritage Month
National Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15. This commemorates the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries—Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico declared its independence from Spain on September 16 and Chile on September 18.

The popular Latino bookstore and art gallery, Libreria Martinez opened a new location in the Plaza Mexico shopping center located at 3170 E. Imperial Hwy. Suite B in Lynwood. This location can be easily reached by taking the Long Beach Blvd. exit of the 105 freeway. Students are encouraged to visit the location not just to purchase or browse for books but to inquire about frequent cultural and literary events open to adults and children alike. Culture Clash at the Central Library
ZÓCALO Public Square Lecture Series at the Downtown Central Library presents “An Evening with Culture Clash: Confused and Still Full of Rage”. Event details: The infamous Chicano performance trio will discuss their two upcoming world premiers, Hollywood’s relationship with Latinos, and the ever widening gap between art and politics.
The program will be held in the Mark Taper Auditorium of the Central Library on Tuesday, December 14, 2005 starting at 7:00 p.m. Reservations are highly recommended. Please visit http://www2.lfla.org/aloud/ to RSVP.

National Hispanic Heritage Month is a national recognition of the culture, contributions and heritage of Hispanic Americans. The annual observance is now a 31-day period beginning on September 15 and ending on October 15.
